U3A National and Local

U3A Todmorden is part of a world-wide and exciting self-help educational movement for older people no longer in full-time work: check out the national organisation’s website.  Every member gets a regular magazine about what other U3As are doing.

U3A stands for ‘University of the Third Age’ – a university that doesn’t hand out qualifications, but brings like-minded people together to share knowledge, experience and pleasure. It’s a worldwide organisation, started in France (though the principles are quite different). In the UK (at the last count) there are 1001 local groups with about 384,000 members, and rising – because we meet the need for older people to get together to learn and have fun.

There are many neighbouring U3A’s if you live on the border: check out Littleborough, Burnley or Clitheroe.  And we’re part of the Yorkshire and Humberside region.

U3A Todmorden started in 2008 with about 40 members and now has around 500, and a regular programme of activities.  See our latest news or browse the website for more information.
