Linda reported that forty-three members visited the historic town of Carlisle recently on a lovely spring day. Some members enjoyed the 12th century castle, while others experienced the peace of the lovely medieval cathedral with its beautiful stained glass and fantastic silver collection. The Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery was yet another destination for some, who viewed numerous Roman artefacts and a Minke whale skull among many other exhibits. The original building was converted from a Jacobean mansion and the fact that all the above were within a short walk from the modern Lanes shopping area, with its cafes and restaurants was much appreciated by those with tired legs and seeking refreshment.
