Alfresco History and Archaeology Visit Programme 2025

The Group met in Roomfield Baptist Church on Tuesday 18th February to plan a sequence of visits for the 2025 season up to November.

The programme we have come up with is subject to the arrangements being feasible with the venues we've selected, so the schedule is provisional for the time being. Members of the group working together are planning individual trips, in each case trying to arrange for a guided tour or talk as part of the visit.

  • March: Todmorden Unitarian Church
  • April: Sunny Bank Mill, Farsley
  • May: Banksfield Museum. Exhibition based on local archaeological finds
  • June: Whalley Abbey and Church
  • July: Group review and planning meeting
  • August: Possibly Halifax Industrial Museum (subject to opening days)
  • September: Bradford City of Culture - Architectural Walk
  • October: Queen Street Mill, Harle Syke, Burnley
  • November: Rochdale Town Hall and nearby archaeological activity.

There are some additional venues being examined either for later or as reserves if some of the above can't be satisfactorily arranged.

Travel to venues

The planning of these visits will include researching how to reach the venues for those that don't have their own transport. Numbers are likely to be too small to consider hiring a coach.
