u3a Todmorden has more members than ever before, and slightly fewer special interest groups than this time last year. Two years ago, we got a couple of successful new groups off the ground by surveying members about their interest in a number of suggested groups. We'd like to do that again. At the bottom of this page, there's a reply form for you to let us know if you're interested in getting a new group off the ground.
Here's a bit more explanation of the group titles in the form:
- Linguistics and English Language. This had a couple of meetings some time ago. Since then, some members were in touch saying they thought it hadn't been given a fair chance to get established. I've also been in touch with the u3a Special Advisor for this subject and have learned of the sorts of activities groups elsewhere do under this theme.
- Pickles and Preserves. Again, a group on this theme was mooted a while ago, but I've had recent requests about having another go at setting up a group on this theme.
- Groups involving music. The Silhouettes Concert was one of the activities that attracted the largest participation outside of our monthly meetings, and in its wake, various suggestions emerged that could lead to regular group activity.. What about ...
- Dancing to popular music
- Vinyl club
- Classical music appreciation
- Playing instruments together
- Artificial Intelligence. We wouldn't be breaking new ground here,, as there is a u3a subject advisor for this and several established groups around the country.
- Cycling by e-bike. This would operate like our walking group, with members taking turns to lead round trips from different starting points in our area.
When replies are in, I'll take forward any of the group themes that attract a reasonable amount of interest, and set up an initial meeting when members present will decide among themselves how, where and when the group will meet regularly..
