The Walking Group will be holding its annual Walking Treasure Hunt on Tuesday 10th December, organised by Bill Griffiths. This Year it will be based around Burnley Town Centre and will also be open to the Strollers Group, the Weekend Walking Group and the Intermediate Walkers Group.
Public transport participants will need to catch the 591 bus to Burnley, departing from Todmorden at 10:37 (10:07 from Mytholmroyd; 10:13 from Hebden Bridge) and then follow instructions below to the start at Rhode Island Coffee on St James's Street
The object is to follow the route on the Clue Sheets and solve the answers to the clues en route. It isn’t a race and if you can’t find the answer you can miss it out and move onwards to the next one. The object is to answer as many of the clues as you can.
Things to remember :-
You will need a clipboard or something to rest on when writing the answers and pen or pencil.
· Keep straight on unless a turn is specified.
· Clues can be grouped together or well spread out and this varies throughout the walk. Clues are always in sight, rarely do you need to cross the road and then only on quiet roads some are more obvious than others but you won’t have to stray off the route.
· You will find some clues easy to answer and some tricky – The odd one very tricky!
· If you lose your way my phone number is 07966 171126
· And especially the marker is always right!!!!!!
Start time between 10.30 and 11.30 (pretty flexible)
Meeting place and start & finish Rhode Island Coffee, St James’s Street, Burnley.
Cost £0.50 per entrant
There are two courses:-
Short Course Approx 1 mile with approx. 25 clues to solve
Long Course Approx 2 ¾ miles with approx. 50 clues to solve
Distance and number of clues to be finalised very close to the date.
If you intend to participate, please let the Walking Group Convenor know by email to toddypg@gmail.com. and say which course you intend to take - long or short - and whether you intend to bring along a partner or friend. This is so that we can ensure that we print off sufficient copies of the appropriate question sheets.
And don't forget to bring 50p per entrant (correct change please) to cover the cost of the printing and the prizes.
No knowledge of Burnley centre is needed as the Clue Sheets will guide you. However, to find the starting point (Rhode Island Coffee) walk straight across the road from the bus station (with Tesco behind you) and go forward along Boot Way (pedestrianised). Turn right at Parker Lane and walk to St James's Street. Turn left towards Burnley centre and Rhode Island Coffee is about 150 metres along St James's Street on your left.
