Our next walk will take place on Tuesday 27th August 2024 and will be led by Jane Milne, assisted by Tristan Molloy.  The walk is approx 5 miles circular from Hebden Bridge, via Heptonstall. Meet at Todmorden Bus Station to catch the 592 bus to Hebden Bridge, departing at 10:27. Details of the walk from Jane and Tristan follow:-

Start from the New Road bus stop (in front of the park) in Hebden Bridge at 10:45.  A 0.75-mile steep ascent to Heptonstall via The Buttress (right-hand rail for full length of The Buttress with low wall to rest at top). 

From Heptonstall cut across to Draper Lane and then follow top of Hardcastle Crags westwards. Firm but narrow, uneven footpath with some steep steps and sections of unguarded steep drop to right. Left along path to meet road at Slack Top. Pick up footpath along north side of Colden Water to Jack Bridge. Several low-step stone stiles and narrow gate accesses. Section of uneven rutted track, potentially boggy. Uneven stone steps down to Jack Bridge (picnic lunch/snack here). 

Leaving Jack Bridge up approx. 50 stone steps, some high, no handrail. Then follow along south side of Colden Water to join Colden Road, down to Mytholm. Wide track, firm under foot, level then gentle downhill. Cross A646 near turning circle to pick up canal path back to Hebden Bridge, or catch a bus back to Todmorden from Mytholm. 

An alternative for walkers who wish to avoid the initial steep climb would be to catch the 596 bus from New Road Hebden Bridge at 11:08 and travel to Heptonstall Post Office arriving at 11:16.  Walkers from HB should arrive there around 11:30.
