Todmorden

Monthly Walk

Our October walk will be led by Gavin Bate and Emily Watnick and will be one of Chris Goddard's Ted Hughes walks. It will start at 10:30am from the car park at Moderna Business Park on the Halifax side of Mytholmroyd (where you can park if travelling by car). The walk is about 4.5 miles/3 hours in length, taking in both woods and moorland.

There's a 591 bus from Todmorden Bus Station at 09:54am (Hebden Bridge at 10:15am) and a 591bus from Halifax bus station at 09:59am (Luddenden Foot at 10:16am), arriving at Moderna Way at 10:21am and 10:22am respectively, just a few minutes walk from the car park where the walk starts.

Walk along the canal to Ted Hughes's birthplace in Mytholmroyd, then into Redacre Wood. Climb up through Redacre Wood and Hill House Wood, carrying on to Heights Road.Up Wicken Hill towards Midgley Moor, climb to the trig point at Sheep Stones Edge, then along the moor to Churn Milk Joan. From there descend back to Mytholmroyd, coming out on Midgley Road, then back to Moderna.

The paths are generally good, though muddy in places and with some steep drops next to paths; a bit overgrown in a few places. The various stiles and gates are in good condition. Obviously there are climbs up and down but nothing that looks to be beyond the ability of our group members.

Incidentally, there will be poetry!
