Todmorden

Walking Group's Monthly Walk

Event type: Group Session
Date: 25th February 2025
Time: 10:40
Group: Walking Group
Venue: The Great Outdoors
Organiser:

Our Tuesday 25th February walk will be led by Anne Wear commencing at about 10:40am from the bench, just to the right of the main car park entrance at Rigg's Garden Centre (next to the bus stop).  The start time will allow for travel from Todmorden bus station on the 10:27am bus towards Rochdale, descending at Rigg's/Walsden Cricket Club.

Unfortunately, as there is only one bus per hour towards Rochdale, connections from both Burnley and Halifax directions are not very convenient.

The 09:35am 592 bus from Mytholmroyd (09:43am from Hebden Bridge) arrives in Todmorden at 10:01am leaving a 26 minute wait for the Rochdale bus

The 09:27am 592 bus from Burnley bus station arrives in Todmorden at 10:00am leaving a 27 minute wait for the Rochdale bus

Alternatively, Riggs are happy for us to park cars at the back of their main car park.

Here are details about the walk from Anne:-

Easy walking from Gordon Riggs Garden Centre, along the canal to Bottomley and then following the Mary Towneley Loop up Moorhey Slope, down Reddyshore Scout lane, then along higher Calderbrook Road, bearing right to walk past Grimes Farm and then stop for a break. We then retrace our steps  on a slightly different route finishing walking down Allescholes Road back to Riggs.

Only two stiles to negotiate, mainly dirt tracks, packhorse trails, and country lanes, and no bogs to get lost in. Just over 6 miles in length, although this can be easily shortened if the weather is bad.

Toilets and cafe are available at Riggs after the walk, which might be useful if waiting for the hourly bus to Todmorden (12:45, 13:45, 14:47. 15:55 from Walsden Cricket Club).
