Our next walk will take place on Tuesday 26th November 2024 and will be led by Judy Audaer. The walk is around 5 miles in length and is expected to take around 2 hrs 30 mins.
Meet at Todmorden Bus Station to catch the 591 bus towards Burnley, departing at 10:37 (10:07 from Mytholmroyd; 10:13 from Hebden Bridge), alighting at the last stop in Portsmouth. Details of the walk from Judy follow:-
Walk forward a few yards from the bus stop to a sign on the left that says Public footpath to Bacup Road. Follow the path that climbs steadily along the side of Cock Hill Wood. Reaching the top corner of the woods we turn left and go up a short but steepish rise, then enter the woods, following a track in a south-easterly direction. These woods used to house adventure cycling routes and are still popular with mountain bikers at weekends so the paths are usually pretty muddy. We emerge from the woods in their southwest corner, then follow a path up to join Flower Scar Road and follow it up to and straight across Tower Causeway (the top road from Todmorden to Portsmouth). Over Lower Moor, past West End Farm and round the fields to Parkin Lane. Cross the road into a farmyard and through fields to come out on Doghouse Lane. Straight across into Buckley Wood and descend into Centre Vale Park. I would advise walking sticks if you have them, not least for the muddy parts.
