Meet at Todmorden Bus Station to catch the 591 bus towards Burnley, departing at 10:37 (10:07 from Mytholmroyd; 10:13 from Hebden Bridge), alighting at Springwood Road, Pike Hill. Details of the walk from Bill follow:-
We take Springwood Road to Springwood Garden Centre and take the track along the side of the garden centre linking into the network of paths in Towneley Park. We descend to the river (toilets are available here). Crossing the river turning left following the river then keeping to the main path until we reach the woods. We enter the woods making a loop over the footbridge where Monks Well is on our left, then turn right towards Towneley Hall. Following the path network we turn left just before the Hall which crosses the main tarmac track to another tarmac track which leads to Boggarts Bridge where we turn right, then left, exiting Towneley Park onto Todmorden Road. We walk up Todmorden Road for a short way, crossing over when safe to do so and then join the track into Towneley Colliery (nice woodland, remains of the colliery hard to find ). It is a circular walk we can do half or 2/3 of the circuit depending on what the group want to do. We exit the woods on a quiet road which leads up to Rose Hill, we go up or down this road depending where we exit Towneley Colliery. We take a track which goes diagonally down Healey Heights ending at a row of terraced houses where we turn right to the end of the houses and then take the foot bridge across the railway line, following the track over the canal bridge and turn right onto the towpath. After a short walk we descend a flight of steps to the Tesco’s slip road which we follow right to the traffic lights to cross to our finish point at Burnley Bus Station (loos at both Tesco & the Bus Station). Return buses from Burnley bus station (platform 6) depart at 12:30, 12:56, 13:30, 13:53 and 14:28.
