Our walk this month will be led by Jane and Tristan. It's a walk of approx. 4½ miles from Mytholmroyd to Callis Bridge (via Erringden Moor).
Here are details of the walk from Jane and Tristan:-
Gather (outside!) The Dusty Miller, Mytholmroyd, for a 10:50 start.
591 bus at 10:23 from Tod Bus Station (arr. Mytholmroyd 10:49).
592 bus at 10:13 from Halifax Bus Station (arr. Mytholmroyd 10:37)
The route takes us along Caldene Avenue, Thrush Hill Road and Nest Lane (approx. 200 yds with no pavement) to Daisy Bank. A fairly steep ascent now, along dirt/rocky path with uneven roots and including 30 steps with deep risers. A brief respite of level walking along to Park Fold, before the climb resumes to the top of the moor, which can be soft under foot, even in dry periods. Meet Kilnshaw Lane, where we turn left – and an opportunity for a refreshment break along here, if we wish. Along to Lower Rough Head, where we meet the Pennine Way and start our winding, woodland descent along a solid but gravelly track (beware of speeding Lycra-clad cyclists) to the A646 at Callis where the planned walk ends. There are opportunities for you to extend your walk, in either direction, along the canal; otherwise, bus stops are close by.
